Chad Parenteau's Lost Causes, 4-17-24
Okay, you got your single step in, now walk a thousand miles!
I’ll tell you the Chad News First
My girlfriend has the week off of teaching. It’s freed me up to do a little more. That mostly translates into housework, but last night I finally gathered the poems I’ve collected over the years with plans to finally put out the new issue of Stone’s Throw.
I considered waiting to release it in May, the month of Stone Soup’s fifty-third anniversary. I decided to get it out sooner because this issue has been waiting for nearly a decade to come out.
If all goes well, I’ll be doing a comics podcast tonight with fellow comics geek Geoffrey Fallon. We’re scrambling for a title.
I was a little behind this weekend, but I’m all caught up with the National Poetry Writing Month challenge and enjoying it. Check out my progress here.
More important things below.
Stone Soup Poetry
Thanks to Mary Ann Honaker for last week’s reading. Read my latest Stone Soup Croutons poem, “Boston and West Virginia Have the Same Rapture Issues.” My first attempt writing about West Virginia since I visited the state almost two decades ago.
Stone Soup keeps on keeping on for National Poetry Month. Be with us tonight as Sue Savoy features.
Oddball Magazine
Click here to read poetry by Joseph Cooper, Jeannie Roberts and John Greiner with great visual art from Riesner, Ira Joel Haber and Glenn Bowie. Props to Jennifer Matthews for her combination of poetry and photography on Monday. In the prose department, we have an essay by Don Krieger and a contribution to Oddball Stories by John Garmon.
Like odd comics? Jason Wright and I have a cameo in this week’s “The Secrets of Skinny People" and Anne Skove shows and tells as only she can in “She Who Laughs Lasts.” Jason Wright kicked off our poet colunists with Jagged Thoughts. Thursday and Friday will give us James Van Looy (It’s All One Thing), Janet Cormier (Bamboozled No More! ) and Bruce Wise (Wise Words). Last Friday we spotlighted photographer Bonnie Matthews Brock and her artistic collaboration with poet Janet Green Riley. What will this Friday give us?
New Release
"Trump Releases" is my latest blackout poem on Medium.
When An Annoyance is Just Another Writing Prompt
My fifty-eighth Tuesday Poem is up now on Patreon for subscribers. Yes, I repurposed the photo from last week’s newsletter.
