I'll Tell You the Chad News First
Hello there. Here’s a shot of video my Mom took of her French Bulldog Twig rolling around on the cold, cold ground.
A couple of years ago, I started a weekly newsletter using only Yahoo! Mail. It was a lot of work. I started a Substack account last month and have only started using it. This is my first attempt at a newsletter.
If you’re receiving this in your inbox, I added you from my list of past newsletter recipients. I didn’t quite mean to do that. I wanted to send out an invitation to subscribe, but Substack doesn’t work like that.
So if you’re reading this and are unhappy, it’s at least easy to unsubscribe.
Otherwise, we’ll resume as planned. I do plan to use Substack to publish more articles—which will also be sent to your inbox if you stay subscribed—but I don’t see myself doing more than two posts a normal week.
I would have sent this out Friday, but I spent most of the week dealing with my girlfriend having COVID. She’s feeling better now, and things are finally quiet today. So here’s a recap of last week.
Stone Soup
Last week, we featured Tara Betts. You can watch the video of her online feature here Read last week's Stone Soup Croutons poem, "How to Prep for New World." The new one goes up every Friday morning.
Next week is a special in-person feature with Black Byrd at the Assemblage Gallery. I hope you can come if you are able to.
Oddball Magazine
Read poetry by Bill Ratner, Jim Bellamy and Jo Beetham-Yelland as well as flash fiction by Shannon O’Connor.
There are also columnists Jason Wright and James Van Looy as well as a Comics Spotlight featuring Katherine Bettis. Friday was closed out as always with columnists Janet Cormier and Bruce Wise. Our cartoonists Geoffrey Fallon and Anne Skove should be back from a well earned break this Monday.
If you're part of this mailing list and interested in submitting to Oddball can email oddballmagazine@gmail.com directly with the words "Chad Sent Me" in the subject.
First Publication of 2023
"'I Thought You Were Off All Week'" was published in Doug Holder's Lyrical Somerville column in The Somerville News. Thanks to Doug Holder for accepting my work.
On the Case
I reviewed the first four episodes of the new "Velma" TV show on HBO Max. What could go wrong?!? You can read it over at The Ugly Monster. And since I didn't mention it in the essay, "Jinkees" is a drug name in the new series.
